Waste Projects

Zero waste to landfill

ASCO's environmental services division offers a bespoke 'zero waste to landfill' service to our offshore clients to meet corporate environmental goals.

Sustainability is embedded as one of our core obsessions, and we have set an ambitious target which can help our clients reduce waste production by implementing short and medium-term solutions for the onshore management of offshore waste. To deliver this objective, we developed the Zero to Landfill solution to divert up to 6,000 tonnes of waste per annum from landfill sites to sustainable facilities using advanced technology, such as 'waste to energy'.

Our aim is to help our clients eliminate waste to landfill and provide safe and sustainable solutions in collaboration with the local supply chain the UK. This will help to raise awareness of waste management and develop learning opportunities for our customer base to manage waste in line with UK regulatory requirements whist managing resources in a more sustainable way.

24/7 solutions for your NORM

NORM Solutions is a wholly owned part of the ASCO family, specialising in the receipt and decontamination of Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (NORM). We operate from a purpose built, state-of-the-art facility in Aberdeen which is capable of handling all types of NORM contaminated equipment, solids, sludges and liquids produced by the UK oil and gas industry.

By using Ultra High Pressure jetting equipment, our automated systems are able to decontaminate items that would normally require the use of chemicals or additional abrasives, both of which result in higher disposal and transportation costs.

Produced Water

Experts in complex produced water projects

Produced water is the largest waste stream associated with the recovery of oil and gas and can be contaminated with hydrocarbons, other chemicals (e.g. methanol, flushing chemicals, biocide), heavy metals, and naturally occurring radioactive materials (NORM).

When offshore produced water solutions fail to deliver and Operators have to search for alternative onshore solutions to deal with significant volumes of contaminated produced water, our solution is the quickest and most cost-effective method. It eliminates the need for additional personnel on board the offshore asset and thus reduces HSSEQ risks and the need for more space offshore.

The growth in the Decommissioning sector also increases the number of situations where produced water solutions are required. We have already worked on a number of projects on behalf of our clients where dealing with produced water within a larger Decom scope has formed part of the complete ASCO service offering.

Our team has years of experience in the environmental services sector and offer complete assurance that your produced water will be managed by specialists who know how to handle, treat and dispose of water with a variety of complex compositions.
