COVID-19 Update - UK

COVID-19

Dear all,

Over the weekend there has been a lot reported in the UK news about the new variant of Covid-19 that has now been identified. This new variant is being associated with the recent rise in cases in South East England and there are also reports of some cases being present in Scotland.

The new variant is not thought to be any more harmful to health, but it appears that it is more able to transmit than the previous variant of Covid-19. To continue to protect ourselves, our colleagues and our loved ones we should all ensure that we comply in full with the guidance that has been put in place and ensure that we never become complacent to this deadly virus.

  • People who can work from home must do so. Only attend sites for the activities which are essential to the business and cannot be done from home.
  • Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with hot soapy water.
  • Use the hand sanitisers that have been provided and reapply this after every hand wash.
  • Regularly clean down your workstation with the wipes provided if you are in the workplace.
  • Use the temperature screening equipment at all times when entering facilities.
  • Maintain social distancing at all times.
  • Wear your face covering when indoors and if at all possible, at all other times.
  • If you develop any symptoms, then please self-isolate, book a test and phone your line manager immediately.
  • If someone in your household has symptoms/tested positive or you are contacted by NHS Test & Trace, phone your manager and stay away from the workplace and self-isolate for 10 days.
  • You must be fever free for 48 hours before you come back to the workplace.

You will all have seen that the Governments have also changed their guidance for Christmas celebrations. This is causing distress, anger and frustration to those who had made plans to travel and be with their loved ones. As disappointing as this is to all of us, it is imperative that we all follow the guidance that has now been put in place.

The Task Force would like to remind everyone about the Employee Assistance Programme that is freely available to support you. Please use it and do not suffer in silence, it is completely confidential and invaluable in difficult times.

The EAP is on hand at any time to support you. You can find the information on how to get in touch with them on Connect, or talk to your local HR representative.

The Covid-19 Task Force would like to thank each and every one of you for following the guidance that has been provided in 2020. We will continue to support the Business for as long as it takes to get back to normal and ensure that you remain protected.

Please look after each other, enjoy Christmas responsibly and we wish everyone good health and happiness for 2021.

Best Wishes,

The Task Force
