ADR Driver Training

Overview

The ADR Driver Training course is designed for commercial drivers who transport dangerous goods by road and require certification under ADR regulations. The course provides the knowledge and practical understanding needed to identify hazards, comply with legal requirements, use the correct documentation, and respond safely to incidents involving dangerous goods.


On successful completion of the required examinations, candidates will be awarded an ADR Vocational Training Certificate, commonly referred to as an ADR licence.

5–7 Days - depending on the modules and dangerous goods classes required. 

Location

This course delivered at our training centre, but can be delivered at a client’s premises.

Certificate

Delegates will be awarded an ADR Vocational Training Certificate, commonly referred to as an ADR licence.
 

Structure

The course is delivered through instructor-led presentations, Department for Transport (DfT) videos, course handouts, shortcut sheets, and guided use of ADR manuals. At the end of the course, candidates sit online examinations. Successful candidates receive an ADR Vocational Training Certificate issued by the Department for Transport.
 

Content

The course covers Core, Practical, Packages, Tanks and all classes of Dangerous Goods:

Core Module

Covers the ADR legal framework, driver responsibilities, transport documentation, vehicle equipment, and operator liabilities. Topics include the UN classification system, hazard identification, emergency actions, firefighting awareness, security of dangerous goods, and safe working practices

Packages Module

Required for drivers transporting dangerous goods in packages.
 

Tanks Module

Required for drivers transporting dangerous goods in tankers, tank containers, or other tank-based transport units.

Class Modules

Drivers must pass the relevant examination for each class of dangerous goods they intend to carry.

Learning Outcomes

Understand the key legal duties that apply when transporting dangerous goods by road.

Identify dangerous goods hazards using classification, labelling, placarding, and documentation.

Apply appropriate emergency actions and basic firefighting principles.

Recognise the requirements for packages, tanks, and specific dangerous goods classes.

Note

The course is regulated by the Department for Transport and managed by SQA. Drivers may also accumulate up to 35 hours of periodic training through this course.
