Overview

This course provides consignors and shippers of dangerous goods by road with the knowledge required to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with ADR 1.3. Delegates will learn how to classify, package, mark, label, document and consign dangerous goods safely and compliantly under ADR, the Carriage of Dangerous Goods Regulations 2009 (CDG 2009) and relevant Approved Derogations.

This course is usually delivered at our training centre, but can be delivered at a client’s premises.

Certificate

An NSL certificate will be issued to delegates who successfully pass the written examination.

Structure

Training is delivered through PowerPoint presentations, DfT videos, course handouts and practical shortcut sheets. Delegates will also use ADR manuals throughout the course to support practical exercises and reinforce regulatory understanding.

The course concludes with a written assessment to confirm delegates’ understanding of the consignor requirements.

This training covers how to:

Explain the requirements of ADR, CDG 2009 and relevant Approved Derogations

Describe the United Nations (UN) classification system for dangerous goods

Identify the responsibilities of consignors, shippers and other duty holders

Classify dangerous goods by hazard type and degree of danger

Identify correct Proper Shipping Names and UN numbers

Apply information from the ADR Dangerous Goods List

Select appropriate packaging for dangerous goods

Mark and label packages correctly

Prepare dangerous goods transport documentation

Advise on vehicle plating, marking and placarding requirements

Apply placarding requirements for containers and tanks

Segregate dangerous goods correctly
