Overview
The OPITO Banksman Slinger Initial Training Programme provides personnel with little or no experience of the Banksman and Slinger role, with the basic knowledge of activities associated with the combined roles, and the safety and regulatory requirements of those activities.
The Initial Training Programme allows the learner to demonstrate basic Banksman and Slinger practical skills and prepare the learners a path to becoming a competent banksman and slinger.
Unit 1 - An Introduction to Lifting Operations and the Role and Responsibilities of the Banksman and Slinger (Load Handler)
- Relevant Legislation and Regulations
- Hazard Identification and Controls
- The Role of the Banksman and Slinger
- Communications and Visibility
Unit 2 - Lifting Operations by Crane - Theory
- The principles of lifting operations by crane
- Introduction to Lifting Equipment and Accessories
- Planning for Lifting Operations by Crane
Unit 3 - Lifting Operations by Crane -Practical
- The principles of lifting operations by crane
- Carrying out the lifting operation
- Restoring the work area and post-operation responsibilities
Practical Elements that include the following:
- Free access lifts
- Blind lifts
- Restricted access lifts
- Lifts with a load with an offset centre of gravity
