We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Instructor/Lifting Technical Advisor to deliver specialist lifting training and provide technical, operational and HSE advisory services across training centres, offshore locations and client sites.

This is a senior, dual-function role combining instructional delivery, engineering-based lift planning, offshore crane operations expertise and strong safety leadership. You will act as a subject matter expert (SME) in lifting operations, supporting both training excellence and real-world operational assurance.

Key Responsibilities Training & Instruction

  • Deliver accredited and in-house lifting courses at training centres and client sites
  • Lead delivery of Subsea Rigging & Lifting (Part 1) and Subsea & Marine Lifting Operations (Part 2)
  • Deliver both classroom-based theory and practical training, including lift planning and rigging exercises
  • Develop and continuously improve course materials aligned with industry best practice and operational experience
  • Assess delegates and mentor instructors, supporting internal competency development


Technical Advisory & Assurance

  • Provide technical support to clients, including lift planning review, verification and assurance
  • Develop lifting procedures, engineering calculations and technical documentation
  • Conduct audits of lifting equipment, operational procedures and competence systems
  • Produce clear technical reports and recommendations
  • Provide expertise in complex, dynamic and engineered lifting operations, including subsea and marine environments


Health, Safety & Compliance

  • Act as a Health & Safety Advisor in lifting operations for both internal and client activities
  • Develop and review risk assessments, method statements (RAMS) and safe systems of work
  • Lead or support incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Conduct safety audits, site inspections and proactive interventions
  • Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER, offshore regulations and industry best practice
  • Promote a strong safety culture, including proactive intervention and “Stop the Job” principles


Offshore & Operational Support

  • Provide offshore or site-based support as required, acting as Lifting Technical Authority/Advisor
  • Support lift execution, crane operations, HAZIDs, toolbox talks and lifting risk reviews
  • Apply offshore crane operator experience to validate lift plans and enhance training realism
  • Intervene where unsafe acts or conditions are identified and provide corrective guidance


Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviours)

  • Extensive experience in the lifting industry, including significant experience as an offshore crane operator
  • Proven experience in subsea and marine lifting operations, including lift planning and engineering calculations
  • Demonstrable experience as a Lifting Technical Authority / Advisor (within a subsea environment)
  • Experience delivering training and developing course materials
  • Strong knowledge of offshore and vessel-based lifting operations
  • Experience in HSE advisory roles, including RAMS and safe systems of work
  • Excellent communication, instructional and technical report writing skills


Minimum Qualifications:

  • NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum)
  • Instructional techniques qualification
  • Competence Assessor qualification (SQA/OPITO or equivalent)
  • Rigging & Lifting certification (e.g. NSL/EAL Level 3)
  • Banksman/Slinger certification
  • Full UK Driving Licence Desirable Qualifications/Competencies
  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Appointed Person / LOLER Competent Person
  • LEEA or equivalent lifting equipment inspection qualification
  • Offshore certification (e.g. BOSIET / FOET / HUET)
  • Experience in marine, quayside or sea fastening operations

Desirable Qualifications/Competencies

  • Degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Appointed Person/LOLER Competent Person
  • LEEA or equivalent lifting equipment inspection qualification
  • Offshore certification (e.g. BOSIET/FOET/HUET)
  • Experience in marine, quayside or sea fastening operations
